We the technology holders, we the Cloud innovators need to be at the table of strategic business alignment a lot lot earlier than currently assumed by the majority of Cxx folk.

Knowledgeable companies that will thrive in this age of mass information will be the ones who eat, sleep and breathe business driven technology strategies. To enable this it’s vital to concentrate on ‘what the business wants to create’. A flawless understanding of the business needs commands the route of flow for the organizations technology adoption. Once this is in place technologies can be brought in for the needs of the enterprise.
Cloud technologies always get a dirty and bumpy ride when it comes to a strategic option for enterprise adoption. It’s all too commonplace that Cloud’s an afterthought for many company CTO’s. Once the said business requirement is known many of them go down the typical path of evangelizing around traditional methods. Only ever looking within the box that’s cozy, risk free and recognized. Sad, old and tired ways of thinking like this results in micro or zero value add!
Some CTO’s do understand Cloud and it’s these visionaries that are re-writing the rulebooks, re-writing ‘business as usual’. But the greater majorities don’t. There’s still a very clear lack of understanding from the top down, on what this unusual model can really offer todays value chain. All too often dismissed at the initial stages because of the age old arguments around security, risk, governance, control etc. Arguments like this show the limited understanding of what can be, or sometimes a strategic method for deflection (castle protection). Arguments like this simply don’t hold water in today’s environment. Companies should ask questions around these subjects to the right people to get the right answers!
Cloud’s about delivering a new technology model to a business that’s very different to anything we’ve ever seen before. It’s changing the business landscape. And to really gain from it innovative minds need to be set free.
Some enterprises that are looking to embrace Cloud get it so so wrong. More often than not employing simplistic short-term cost saving wins without little or no thought of long-term innovative ways of doing the same different, better and faster.
We the technology holders, we the Cloud innovators need to be at the table of strategic business alignment a lot lot earlier than currently assumed by the majority of Cxx folk.
“Technology’s only the enabler, it’s what you do with it that make the real difference.”
